Title 2 ADMINISTRATION AND PERSONNEL
Chapter 2.20 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM
2.20.100 Replacement of fire-rescue commission members.
A. The fire-rescue control board will provide two names per
vacated position to the Colleton County council for consideration. The nominees
must be qualified residents of Colleton County. A commission member shall not be
an officer or director of any rural department. In the event an individual
holding such a position is placed in nomination, he/she may retain his/her chief
and/or board status until his/her commission appointment is made by county
council. At that time he/she must resign his/her position.
B. The fire-rescue control board members shall each, if
desired, submit one name per vacancy, and the two nominees who receive the
majority of the votes, by secret ballot, will be submitted to the county council
for selection.
C. The position must be replaced within sixty (60) days of an
unplanned vacancy. Arrangements shall be made to fill planned vacancies sixty
(60) days prior to the position becoming vacant.
D. If county council should decline to appoint any nominee,
the nominating authority shall present a new nominee within sixty (60) days of
the notice of such action by council.
E. Failure to make a nomination within the time provided
shall be deemed a waiver of the right to nominate, and county council may
appoint any person qualified pursuant to Section 2.20.080(A).
F. Nominees appointed to fill unplanned vacancies shall
serve, for that appointment, only the remainder of the unexpired term of the
original member. (Ord. 96-O-2, 1996)
