Chapter 2.64 SAFETY COMMITTEE
2.64.040 Responsibilities and duties.
The Colleton County safety committee shall be responsible
for:
A. Reviewing and revising the safety program and employee
safety manual supplied by the risk manager as a draft, working
document;
B. Evaluating and approving all future requested changes to
the safety program and employee safety manual, and updating same as new
regulations evolve;
C. Promoting safety and training programs among all
employees;
D. Promoting departmental self-inspection;
E. Performing periodic committee inspections of county
departments/facilities;
F. Promoting compliance with local, state and federal
regulations;
G. Developing feedback from the departments and individual
employees on suggested changes or improvements to the safety program, and on
potential hazards in the work environment;
H. Reviewing accidents and recommending action, training, and
if necessary, disciplinary measures in specific instances, up to and including
recommending discharge of an employee and/or garnishment of wages where
allowable.
I. Reviewing and investigating historical trends and reported
unsafe conditions referred to the committee, and requesting action be taken by
appropriate authorities where deemed necessary.
J. Recommending remedial action through the routine council
review process where departments consistently fail to remedy situations or
appear to penalize employees for reporting accidents or unsafe
conditions.
K. Developing recommendations for incentives to aid in
motivating employees to think regularly of safety and the prevention of
injury.
L. Working with and reviewing OSHA reports. (Ord. 02-O-15
