The board shall be composed of seven members, including, when possible: one architect, one engineer, one general contractor, one residential builder, and three members at large from the building industry. All members shall be residents of Colleton County, but not employees of the jurisdiction, and they shall receive no compensation for this service.

The said members shall be appointed by the county council and shall serve four-year terms. If a vacancy occurs, the county council shall fill the vacancy by appointment for the unexpired term.

In addition to the regular members, there should be two alternate members, one member at large from the building industry and one member at large from the public. No board member or alternate shall act in a case in which he has a personal or financial interest. (Ord. 2000-O-18 §1, 2000; Ord. 97-O-2 § 2, 1997)
