Chapter 6.04 ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL REGULATIONS
6.04.180 Veterinary control official.
A. The function of veterinary control official is established
to function as veterinary medical advisor to Colleton County animal care and
control.
B. Duties:
1. The veterinary control official shall be responsible for
establishing the medical protocols and minimum standards for animal care
including, but not limited to, euthanasia, quarantine, rabies inoculation,
worming, spay/neuter, emergency care, and treatment of animal illness and
injury.
2. The veterinary control official shall provide consultation
and limited veterinary care on a schedule to be negotiated by the veterinarian,
the animal care and control director, and the county administrator.
C. The veterinary control official shall be paid a salary of
one hundred dollars ($100.00) per month for the duties described above and shall
be eligible for coverage under the county health and tort insurance
policies.
D. The establishment of the veterinary control official does
not replace the use of the negotiated services of other veterinarians or the
veterinary control official as required for performing such medical procedures
as spay/neuter, euthanasia, or emergency care as deemed necessary by the
director of animal care and control. Spay/neuter procedures shall be provided at
the standardized service rates negotiated with local veterinarians and approved
by county council by resolution. All other procedures and associated costs are
contracted on an as needed basis in accordance with the procurement
policy.
E. Initially and in the event of a vacancy, the veterinary
control official function shall be advertised, and applications submitted with
detailed proposals for services, availability, and experience.
F. The animal care and control director shall be responsible
for the interpretation and implementation of adopted protocols and procedures
recommended by the veterinary control official. (Ord. 03-O-01 § 18,
