Chapter 9.04 LITTERING
9.04.010 Violation--Penalties.
A. Any person who shall litter any public street or highway
or any other public place in Colleton County, South Carolina, shall be fined not
more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) and/or be imprisoned for a period of
not more than thirty (30) days. The definition of littering shall include, but
not be limited to, unsecured trash, household garbage or waste falling out of a
vehicle.
B. Any person who shall improperly use any Colleton County
dumpster by placing anything into the dumpster except household garbage, or any
person who shall damage Colleton County garbage cans or dumpsters, or any person
who shall deposit trash on the ground instead of in the dumpsters, shall be
fined not more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) and/or be imprisoned for a
period of not more than thirty (30) days.
C. Colleton County convenience centers and dumpster sites are
restricted for use by Colleton County residents only. Convenience center
employees are authorized to check drivers’ licenses to verify Colleton
County residency. Any person who is not a resident of Colleton County and who
deposits household garbage or any trash or waste at a Colleton County dumpster
or convenience center shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars
($500.00) and/or be imprisoned for a period of not more than thirty (30)
days.
D. The discovery of litter containing identifying
information, such as correspondence upon which is affixed addressee information,
shall constitute probable cause for issuance of a summons for violation of this
