Chapter 13.08 COUNTY AIRPORT ZONING REGULATIONS
13.08.060 Nonconforming uses.
A. Except as provided in subsection B of this section, the
regulations prescribed by this chapter shall not require removing, lowering,
changing or altering any structure or vegetation not conforming to the
regulations as of the effective date of the ordinance codified in this chapter,
nor shall they otherwise interfere with the continuance of a nonconforming use.
Nothing contained in this chapter shall require any change in the construction,
alteration or intended use of any structure, the construction or alteration of
which was begun prior to the effective date of said ordinance and has been
diligently pursued.
B. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection A of this
section, the owner of any existing nonconforming structure or vegetation is
required to permit the installation, operation and maintenance thereon of
whatever markers and lights deemed necessary by the Federal Aviation
Administration, the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission or the administrator
to indicate to the operators of aircraft in the vicinity of the airport the
presence of that airport obstruction. These markers and lights shall be
installed, operated and maintained at the expense of the airport owner. (Ord.
