Colleton County Government is accepting applications/resumes for the position of Director of Fire-Rescue/Fire Chief Fire Rescue. Fire Rescue provides emergency services to a response area covering over 1132 square miles. Operating from 34 All Hazards Fire Departments located in the South Carolina Lowcountry. The staff is comprised of 115 cross-trained career personnel and 150 volunteer firefighters. This position reports to the County Administrator.
Job Description
- Supervises operations and personnel of the County Fire-Rescue Department.
- Coordinates department activities with all relevant County emergency service agencies and municipalities.
- Responsible for all aspects of the County Fire-Rescue Program.
- Directs resources to achieve lower ISO ratings.
- Responsible for system status management and the allocation of resources related to fire, rescue, emergency medical services and emergency management.
- Responsible for development and compliance of standard operating procedures.
- Directs emergency operations at fire, accident, emergency medical and/or disaster scenes as necessary.
- Ensures proper maintenance and repair of County fire apparatus, facilities, and equipment.
- Ensures proper training for County Fire-Rescue personnel and compliance with same.
- Ensures the maintenance of technical and official records related to the department.
- Develops and manages the department budget.
- Writes, develops, and manages grants to include procurement and documentation of items and progress of the grant during implementation of the project.
- Coordinates and teaches public relations activities.
- Performs personnel related duties
- Responsible for purchasing equipment and supplies
- Prepares long-range goals
- Responsible for budgetary control and projections.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Fire Sciences (master’s degree preferred), minimum of ten years’ experience in the fire rescue field and minimum of five years of experience in Fire and Rescue Supervision with a background in finance and personnel management; or any equivalent combination or training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must hold IFSAC Firefighter II certification; IFSAC Fire Officer II or better certification; Knowledge and Understanding of the ISO CRS Rating Schedule; Working Knowledge of NFPA standards; Design and operational knowledge of Fire Apparatus, pump and equipment: SC or National Certification as EMT-Paramedic; and possess a SC class “E” or better driver’s license. Executive Fire Officer and/or Chief Fire Officer Designation preferred. Experience in the Emergency Management field required. Must meet the training requirements established in Fire-Rescue Department Directive 1.69.6.
