Colleton County Government is accepting applications for the position of GIS Specialist. Under the direction of the Technology Director, the GIS Specialist is responsible for performing specialized database maintenance to ensure the availability of high quality, cost effective, reliable, and accurate spatial data. Performs spatial analyses and advanced data editing using GIS software; produces hard copy digital maps. Provides technical support to staff utilizing the County’s GIS, and processes public requests for map information. Performs other related work as required. Reports to the Technology Director.
Completion of college-level course work in computer science or related field, Associates Degree, with an emphasis on GIS technology is required. Experience using ESRI suite of GIS software including ArcGIS Desktop applications and ArcSDE. Must have attended seminars or workshops of at least ten (10) credit hours focusing on the use of the ESRI based software. Requires one year’s experience using GIS, preferably in local government.
A pre-employment drug screen and a satisfactory background check are also required.
