Colleton County Fire/Rescue is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Mechanic III-Upfitter-Emergency Equipment Installer. The successful candidate will under general supervision, be responsible for the installation, repairs, preventive maintenance, and servicing of emergency equipment, lights, push bumpers, sirens, speakers, radios and related equipment on light duty trucks; cars; emergency vehicles such as fire apparatus, sheriffs (police) cars, boats, ATVs, ambulances and county vehicles. May install other equipment, such as firefighting equipment, police equipment and security cages in the same types of vehicles. Will maintain maintenance related records, reports and work orders. Assist with minor building maintenance and/or repairs as needed. Manage inventory of related emergency equipment, electrical components and supplies.
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Three years of experience as a mechanic or upfitter working on or with emergency warning equipment, radios, brush guards, winches, running boards, etc. and related systems or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be proficient in vehicle electrical systems, Microsoft Word and Windows based Programs. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license and a good driving history. Pre-employment drug screen and a satisfactory background check also required.
The following certifications are preferred and may be obtained after employment:
- Fork lift operator
- EVT E-1 Design and Performance Standards and Preventive Maintenance of Ambulances
- EVT E-2 Ambulance Electrical Systems
- EVT F-2 Design Performance and Preventive Maintenance Of Fire Apparatus
- EVT F-4 Fire Apparatus Electrical Systems
