Colleton County Government is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of Medical/Shelter Technician in the Animal Care and Control Department. The qualified individual will perform a variety of animal medical care related services for the shelter such as conducting a variety of lab tests, administering veterinarian prescribed medicines, transporting animals to veterinary appointments, maintaining health records, etc. Assists with all areas of Shelter operation including animal care, intake, behavior assessment, record keeping, etc. Performs or assists with euthanasia. Assists as needed with animal control field calls.

Requires a High School diploma with practical training or experience in a veterinary or animal shelter setting or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must have excellent animal handling skills, be familiar with veterinary terminology, and be able to conduct simple diagnostic procedures. Must have, or be able to obtain within six months, certification to perform euthanasia. Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
