Colleton County (S.C.) Fire-Rescue is accepting applications for the positions of Firefighter II, Firefighter II/EMT and Firefighter II/Paramedic. Colleton County Fire-Rescue is an all-hazards, full-service department serving approximately 40,000 people in over 1,100 square miles from 35 fire stations utilizing a staff of 80 full-time, 10 part-time and 125 paid-on-call volunteer firefighters. Fire-Rescue operates a fleet of 129 vehicles including 36 engines, 34 tenders, 12 ALS ambulances, 2 E-One 95’ Platforms, 2 Heavy Rescues, 2 Hazardous Materials Units, and 1 ARFF truck.

Colleton County is located on the beautiful coast of South Carolina and offers excellent hunting and fishing opportunities including two state wildlife management areas, as well as one of the longest (21 miles) black water rivers in the country encompassing the Edisto River canoe and kayak trail. Additionally, Edisto Beach, a barrier island and one of the few uncommercialized, family-oriented beaches in the country, is in the southeast portion of Colleton County.

The successful candidate will perform a variety of duties including emergency response, medical transports, vehicle extrications, firefighting, vehicle and station maintenance, equipment testing and fire prevention activities. Position requires a thorough knowledge of firefighting and emergency medical care. Applicants must be dependable, of good moral character, be in good physical condition; be able to work under highly stressful conditions and have the ability to work well with others.

One year firefighting experience with a volunteer or career fire department and certification as an IFSAC Firefighter I with the ability to acquire IFSAC Firefighter II within six months of employment (Pro Board also accepted). Must be certified by the National Registry as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver's license with a good driving record at time of employment. Class "E" Driver's License or better within 1 month of employment, clear criminal history, High School diploma or G. E. D. /equivalent. Applicants must provide a 10-year driving history with the application. Candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and a satisfactory background check is also required. Paid monthly In-Service Training. Over-time rate applied after 40 hours worked each week.
