A pillar of the Lowcountry construction industry has announced its expansion into Colleton County with an investment of $11,750,000 and the creation of 20 new jobs. Banks Construction Company, a third generation heavy highway contractor headquartered in North Charleston, will bring a new state-of-the-art asphalt production facility to the Colleton Venture Park located on Industrial Road in Walterboro.
“We are pleased to welcome Banks Construction to Colleton County,” said Scott Biering, chairman of Colleton County Council. “Banks Construction has a long history of quality, innovation, and safety as well as a strong reputation for the timely delivery of projects. We are pleased to see them grow with us.”
The Colleton County plant will be Banks’s third asphalt production facility, joining their current plants in Summerville and North Charleston. The Walterboro plant is currently under construction and aims to begin production this summer.
“We recognized an opportunity to better support our existing partners and the broader Colleton County community, and the site at Colleton Venture Park was a perfect fit,” said Reid Banks, President and CEO of Banks Construction. “We’ve been welcomed with open arms by local leadership, and we look forward to maintaining our high standards for safety and customer service with our new plant in Colleton County.”
“SouthernCarolina Alliance welcomes Banks Construction Company’s operation to Colleton County, which provides an outstanding location for asphalt production and other industries related to infrastructure or construction across the Southeastern United States,” said SouthernCarolina Alliance Chairman, Marty Sauls. “We appreciate their investment in our people because every new job created provides an opportunity for a family here. Congratulations to Colleton County!”
