Murdaugh Becomes First Colletonian to Chair SouthernCarolina Alliance

COLLETON COUNTY - Colleton County Councilman Steve Murdaugh has been named chairman of the SouthernCarolina Regional Development Alliance Board of Directors, SCA announced at its board meeting Tuesday in Walterboro. Murdaugh, who has served on Colleton County Council for the last 26 years and as an SCA Board member for 10 years, becomes the first Colletonian to chair the regional economic development organization, which represents Barnwell, Bamberg, Allendale, Hampton, Jasper, Colleton and Beaufort counties. "I'm honored and humbled to chair SouthernCarolina Alliance, and I look forward to working with our board, staff and regional allies to help the organization provide exceptional service to its members while fulfilling SCA's core mission of improving the quality of life of the citizens of our region”, says Murdaugh. A native of Islandton, Murdaugh is a 1988 graduate of The Citadel with a degree in Business Administration. While attending The Citadel, Steve enlisted in the South Carolina Army National Guard, where he continued to serve from 1986 through 1994 as a Signal Corps Officer. After graduation, Steve’s professional career began as a Certified Public Accountant where he worked for the South Carolina State Auditors Office. Steve later began his career in public accounting, eventually opening his own firm in Walterboro. Murdaugh received his Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law in 2009. In 2022, he opened the Murdaugh Law Group, LLC in Walterboro where he practices law alongside his sons.  Murdaugh has served Colleton County as a councilman since 1999, including several terms as chairman. He has also served his community in various capacities as a member of numerous boards and commissions, including Habitat for Humanity, Colleton County Sertoma Club, Lowcountry Community Action Agency, Lowcountry Council of Governments, Bank of Walterboro, Walterboro-Colleton County Airport Commission, Salkehatchie Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and Colleton County Citadel Club. Steve’s greatest joy is spending time hunting and working on his farm in Islandton and spending time with his family, including his wife Valerie, their four sons and his grandson.
