GIS Director

Colleton County Government is seeking resumes from qualified individuals for the position of GIS Director. Under limited supervision, plans, organizes, and directs all programs, functions, and activities of the County Geographic Information Systems, as well as providing leadership in the development of the County’s overall GIS programs.  Is responsible for supervising and overseeing the operations and activities of personnel involved in the GIS department.  Prepares departmental budget.  Reports to the County Administrator.

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, geography (GIS), or other related fields.  Master’s Degree preferred with an emphasis on course work in GIS technology including cadastral mapping, large database file maintenance, principles, standards, terminology, and trends in GIS.  Must have at least three to five years’ experience managing Geographic Information Systems.  Experience in the use of GIS relating to local government functions (County, Municipality etc.) preferred.  Must have at least three years of management/supervisory related experience dealing with GIS functions such as land use planning, tax assessment, roads maintenance, solid waste, etc. Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and education will be considered.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.  Pre-employment drug screening and a satisfactory background check are also required.
